The population is 33m. It has no access to the sea. The country is welcoming, tolerant of all faiths, stable. It has the youngest population in the world, at 24.5 average age.
Political modernisation is a priority. The UN and other world institutions are important to Uzbekistan. Previously they did not intervene, but now are interacting more to help, for instance with Afghanistan.
Russia is a strategic partner in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and there is therefore an incentive for co-operation. Economic diplomacy - Israel is one of its strongest partners and visas have been waived for Israelis. Need to make friendships with Iran. Strategic partnership with US is important.
There are now direct flights to Uzbekistan. It is a thriving developing country.
