Albert A Poggio OBE, United Kingdom Representative of Gibraltar
Mr Poggio gave a wide-ranging talk about some of the 'theatres' that Gibraltar is involved in as well as the three pillars of the economy: tourism, retail shopping and financial services. "Gibraltar is booming" he said.
Mr Albert Poggio was appointed United Kingdom Representative for the Government of Gibraltar in 1988 (Head of Mission). His remit includes liaison with both Houses of Parliament and all Whitehall Departments. His brief includes the promotion of all aspects of the Gibraltar Economy, Port, Tourism and Finance Centre.
Mr Poggio has responsibility for the briefing of members of Parliament and various Select Committees whose work may have a detrimental effect on Gibraltar. He is also responsible for all regional Assemblies.
Mr Poggio is a founding member of MedCruise (the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports) and has been a Director for the past ten years, currently holding the position of UK Representative. MedCruise represents 75 Mediterranean Cruise Ports across 22 countries.
Mr Poggio is Vice President and founder member of the United Kingdom Overseas Territories Association (UKOTA). This Association represents the interests of the 13 remaining British Overseas Territories.
Mr Poggio is Vice Chairman of the Friends of Gibraltar and Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society.
Mr Poggio was made an OBE in 2006 and is a Freeman of the City of London.
